You Didn’t Think the IG Challenge Was It, Did You?

First we want to thank everyone who participated in the #LadiesofHorrorFiction challenge on Instagram. The participation exceeded our expectations by a huge amount, with over 1300+ posts! We saw many fantastic photos, and discovered many new ladies of horror fiction right along with you.

It was a wonderful month filled with lifting up female writers who often get overlooked.

Now, the challenge may be over (for now), but our goal of putting a spotlight on the underrepresented is not.

Because we understand that the best way to do things properly is to take it slow and make sure that we have a solid foundation, a great team, and an organizational charter in place, we have been planning this for quite some time. The Instagram Challenge was just the first public step.

Now we would like introduce you to the the home of our  informal (for now) organization where the sole aim is support female –cis or self-identifying – horror writers all year round.

Here’s (some) of what we’re planning

BOOK REVIEWS (EVERY WEDNESDAY): Well, considering this is a site run by book reviewers, it should be no surprise to hear that we plan on doing book reviews quite regularly. However, how we do them is going to be a little different.

Because our goal is to lift women horror writers up, you will not see a review below what we would personally consider three stars on the site.

*Note: This means that if a reviewer rates a book lower than three stars, the review might be posted on that reviewers website, but it will not be posted here. There will be no artificial inflations of ratings to get someone reviewed here.*

INTERVIEWS (EVERY FRIDAY): Whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve been around for a while, if you qualify as one of the ladies of horror fiction, we will be happy to interview you!

GUEST POSTS: Need some additional publicity for a book you have coming out and/or just want to talk about something dear to you and writing, reading, or genre-relevant? Let us be a platform to make your voice heard.

ARTICLES:  If we feel we have something that needs to be said, we’re going to say it.

INSTAGRAM CHALLENGE(S) and RECAPS (EVERY MONDAY): Self-explanatory. We had so much fun in August we can’t imagine not doing this every year. Also, we’ve been saving up our favorite posts from each day of the challenge, so you’ll get recaps of the fun regularly.

…and more.

Much more.

However, we’ll let you get used to what we’re already offering now before we roll out some of our other projects.

. . .

  3. As I said to Laurie, if you ladies ever need help, I’m not far away (technically I am but I mean in spirit). It’s such a great thing you’re doing, and I can’t wait to see what you all have in store!

      1. Good stuff! And may you ladies take my parting words to heart:

        Tentacles. That is all.
